Deep Magic for 5th Edition: A Tome of New Spells & Arcana

Created by Kobold Press

Deep Magic for Fifth Edition series brings to life more than 700  new and revised spells. It also features new domains, specialities, origins, patrons, familiars, magical traps, and more! Stun your table with arcane mysteries from some of the darkest and brightest minds in game design today. A note about shipping around COVID-19 uncertainty: For Deep Magic, we've scaled back our efforts to include duty/tax/fee payments in our shipping rates to destinations outside of the US, with the exception of Canada. That means you may be required to pay appropriate duties, taxes, or fees on delivery/pickup. To limit this impact as much as possible, we’ve used graduated rates for shipping. Our intention is to get items to you with predictable rates. We’re using the United States Postal Service to ensure fixed rates and predictable expenses on our side. Thank you for understanding.

What is Magic: Ring
over 6 years ago – Tue, Oct 15, 2019 at 11:42:44 PM

In this series, we explore the different subschools (specialties/styles) of magic that appear in Deep Magic. We hear from the designers on the subschools and their thought processes, ideas, and the general “feel” behind the subschools. These subschools can be used individually to introduce one extra layer or type of spellcasting to your world or they can all be used together to showcase a diverse array of spellcasting disciplines in your world.

Today’s subschool is ring. Designer Dan Dillon has the following to say about ring magic:

Ring magic is a fun concept that blends the dwarven cultural propensity for crafting with the ephemeral and much less concrete concepts of magic and spellcasting. It gives us an interesting touchstone to help blend those conflicting concepts, and play on why and how dwarven wizards and other spellcasters might look at magic differently from other races. The Ring Wardens channel their magic through rings of metal, rings being pieces of jewelry worn on fingers, certainly, but more meaning the simple shape, which are used as magical focuses and adornments on the wardens' signature staves. Ring magic spells blend various magical effects into circular, ring themes, and draw heavily on creation as an overarching concept, from creating rings of spinning blades and biting cold or pure destruction, to creating potent constructed servants bound to two prominent magic rings.

What is Magic: Elemental

In this series, we explore the different subschools (specialties/styles) of magic that appear in Deep Magic. We hear from the designers on the subschools and their thought processes, ideas, and the general “feel” behind the subschools. These subschools can be used individually to introduce one extra layer or type of spellcasting to your world or they can all be used together to showcase a diverse array of spellcasting disciplines in your world.

Today’s subschool is elemental. Designer Dan Dillon has the following to say about elemental magic:

Elemental magic taps into the primal forces of nature and existence through connection to the Elemental Planes. There are quite a few class options here, from sorcerers who carry a sliver of elemental power in their souls, to warlocks who've entered into a pact with a powerful lord of geniekind, and wizards who study the primal power of the elements and master one of the four. Many existing spells in D&D use and channel the elements, so it's easy for spells in that vein to get samey or boring, but I think you'll be excited by what you find in here. The elemental magic spells tap into the power of the elements for what you'd expect out of such destructive forces, but they also draw on the mystical and narrative themes of those elements to deliver a fun play experience you can use to shape the flow of an encounter, as well as deplete hit points.

More Backer Spells and Infernal Magic Unlocked!
over 6 years ago – Fri, Oct 11, 2019 at 01:23:35 AM

Spellcasters who summon and make deals with dark entities from the Lower Planes rejoice! Infernal magic has been unlocked, adding a set of spells and a full subclass with a fiendish bent to the options in Deep Magic! We can already smell the brimstone wafting through the warrens...

If that wasn't enough, you also unlocked more backer spells! Now we'll be able to add 30 backer spells to the book! All backers can submit a spell for our judges to review for inclusion in the Deep Magic book, but backers won't be able to submit their spells until November 1st. Keep an eye on these updates, as this is where we'll post the submission guidelines after the Kickstarter ends.

Summon your friends...closer...just half a step to the left...right there! Now activate your magic circles and show them this Kickstarter! With a little more help, we can unlock two additional new subclasses and--maybe!--new charm person variants!

Thank you for helping us bring more fiendish magic to spellcasters obsessed with the Lower Planes!

What is Magic: Dragon

In this series, we explore the different subschools (specialties/styles) of magic that appear in Deep Magic. We hear from the designers on the subschools and their thought processes, ideas, and the general “feel” behind the subschools. These subschools can be used individually to introduce one extra layer or type of spellcasting to your world or they can all be used together to showcase a diverse array of spellcasting disciplines in your world.

Today’s subschool is dragon. Designer Shawn Merwin has the following to say about dragon magic:

One of the first creatures to tame all types of magic was the majestic and terrible dragon. While their very essences were capable of controlling the elements and radiating powerful fear, they also mastered more subtle magic. They weaved a tapestry of magic into their homes, giving their lairs powerful protection. They taught their servants, from humans to kobolds to elves, how to make use of the magic that permeated the atmosphere. Dragon magic allows wizards to tap into that draconic tradition, giving themselves draconic abilities, from powerful bites to magical wings to a breath weapon.
